Photography is one of my favourite hobbies, but I am getting the daft notion. If I was to ever own a really good camera, like the type you need to be professional...If I ever could be professional with photos, like just a small project...

You should go for it!
You're good at what you do as is, so just imagine what you'd be like with the amazing gear!!!
Why don't you try and find some photography groups? You sometimes get a few running at holidays. Look into it for next summer maybe? =] x
I might just do that, I thought it may sound like a crazy idea, that i just felt like thinking out loud :)
